Sylvia Mavaji is a certified life coach.  She is the founder of Mavaji Coaching.  She specializes in empowering women by encouraging sustainable learning and growth, and creating positive change through action.

I’m an optimist, fitness fanatic, music lover, life-long learner, and a promoter of potential. I’m also sensitive, bilingual, a world-traveler, friend, sister, appreciator of the arts, silly, goofy, chill, and humble. And what I am about to say next will be shocking.You don’t need me as your life coach. You don’t need a coach, period. Because unless it’s air, water, food, or shelter, a coach isn’t needed to simply live this thing called life.


You’ve got to *want* the changes that come with working with a life coach. You have to have the desire to live boldly, to take the steps necessary towards your greater existence & highest potential, and to live in a space of empowerment and harmony. Let that be your need.

My coaching style centers on thoughtful and transformative conversations held within the supporting space of a trusting relationship. I believe that for coaching to be an effective collaboration, honest communication, investment of time and energy, and commitment are required of both parties.


Coaching is a form of self-reflection; it’s about acquiring new knowledge & skills to impact and improve current habits, behaviors, and ways of thinking that ultimately leads to new discoveries, possibilities, and options.


Using our coaching sessions to explore your goals we focus on your strengths to embrace the powerful and sustainable changes that you desire for your life. No form of weekly action is too small so long as it’s progress toward your overall goals. This is about your transformation. You choose your outcome.

Our conversations typically take place over the phone or via video conferencing. Q: What exactly is a life coach?


A: I really like this quote from a coaching book that I recently read: “A coach is someone who helps another person reach higher effectiveness by creating a dialogue that leads to awareness and action. By creating the space to step back, look in the mirror, and grapple with the tough questions, a coach helps a person examine and deal with their reactions to obstacles and, in a sense, “get out of their own way” as they achieve better results, in a more efficient manner.” (Source: A Manager’s Guide to Coaching by Brian Emerson and Anne Loehr)


Q: Are you a therapist?


A: I am not medically trained but similar to therapists coaches are part of the helping community. I would work in tandem with your therapist. Think of it as having both a doctor and dentist, they both work with you but in different capacities. But again, this is very important to remember, I am not a medical professional and will not be able to diagnose you in any way.


Q: What do you mean when you say you’re a Certified Life Coach?


A: Although one does not have to complete any formal training to call themselves a life coach, I felt it was important to earn my certification. I am a graduate of the iNLP Center and accredited through the IAPLC (International Association of Professional Life Coaches).. Additionally, I am working towards earning my ACC designation through the ICF (International Coaching Federation).


Q: Why did you choose to become a life coach?


A: I knew in my 20s that I wanted to be a coach. I’ve always enjoyed helping others work through their problems but at that age I felt I needed more life experiences. Now knowing what I do I could have pursued coaching at that time but I try not to live my life from the past, I focus on the present and work towards creating the future I desire. I know without a shadow of a doubt that this is what I am meant to do on this lifetime. This is the impact that I want to have on the world… to connect with those that might need some help navigating their lives and help them create the life that they want.


Q: I just need help/guidance. As my coach will you tell you me what to do?


A: While I may at times, with your permission, offer tips, advice, and suggestions I will never tell you exactly what to do because only you can learn from doing. My job is to help you reveal what it is you want from your life, to assist in bridging the gap from where you are currently to where you want to be, help you create the various options and possibilities to get there, and hold you accountable to what you say you’re willing to do to make that happen.



Q: Do I really need a coach?


A: The truth is no one needs a coach but if you’re looking to gain clarity on your goals, if you’re seeking accountability for your actions, if you’re wanting to make serious strides in your life or career with someone who has only your best interests in mind, then investing in a coach is absolutely recommended.


Q: Do you work with men?


A: Yes! I have and do work with men. For marketing purposes I will typically aim my message towards women but I find that men do resonate with me as a coach and my coaching style. Pro tip: Find yourself a coach that you can really connect with regardless of gender. If you can open up and truly express yourself, the work you do with your coach will be incredibly successful and powerful.


Q: Do you ever turn away a potential client?


A: Because coaching is a partnership based on open communication, honesty and trust it is absolutely vital that both of us are a good fit for one another. During our strategy session we will each get a sense of our partnership. You might decide I’m not your coach and that is perfectly ok! I, in turn, may also realize that I won’t be a good match for you and I may refer you to a fellow coach that could be better suited to your needs.


Q: Why did you choose to focus on empowerment and harmony as a coach?


A: I like the duality between empowerment and harmony because they can truly encompass one’s entire being. With empowerment, you’re working on such things as increasing your self-belief, silencing your inner critic, taking deliberate action towards your goals, and changing your mindset from fixed to growth. And with harmony you are creating self-care practices, understanding personal boundaries regarding your time & energy, learning to detach & let go of that which does not serve you, and coming back to center through inner peace. It’s becoming strong and yet calm. Powerful and also grateful.


Q: How should I prepare for each call?


A: Each session will be unique. I like to say that I meet you where you are. That is not in a physical sense but rather mental- if you have something that you want to discuss that day, that’s the direction we will take. What I do ask of you in each session is to be fully present. That means no distractions, no driving, and minimal to no background noise. If you’re concentrating on another activity then you won’t be fully engaged in our conversation and that will impact your learning.


Q: Do I have to only pick from the 3 coaching packages?


A: No you do not! I offer 3 coaching packages as a means to simplify the process but you are the expert of you. If you feel you would benefit from a slightly different time range (i.e.4






months) or frequency (such as once every 3 weeks), let’s discuss it and together we can create a personalized package for you.


Q: What is a strategy session?


A: I offer a complimentary 60 minute strategy session to anyone who might be interested in coaching. This session is to gain a better sense of where you are currently and what you would like to achieve. This call or meeting will also allow both of us to determine if we might make a dynamic team so that you can thrive personally and professionally.

Q: How long is each coaching session?


A: Our 1st call will range between 60 to 90 minutes because some housekeeping items will be tended to such as scheduling, payments, and any questions from you will be discussed. After that initial call, our subsequent calls will be 60 minutes long.


Q: Will we meet face to face for our sessions?


A: It is possible that we have a face to face for our strategy session or for our housekeeping call, but the remainder of our sessions will be conducted over the phone or via a video communication service such as Zoom. Suggestion: I personally prefer phone calls over video chatting because I find we are both able to relax a little more without the worry of what we might look like, or what our background might show on camera however if you’re more comfortable with seeing or viewing one another that can be arranged.


Q: Why is there homework at the end of each session?


A: Homework assignments are mutually agreed upon during a session to assist you in your growth and are to be completed in-between sessions. Think of these tasks or assignments as actionable steps towards your goals. Please remember though- I am your coach- not your teacher and certainly not your parent. If you do not complete an assignment there are no failing grades given out, but we will explore why you were not able to complete the assignment. Perhaps the task was too ambitious, perhaps your schedule was too hectic, or perhaps you felt it wasn’t really beneficial. These are all possibilities that we will discuss to gain a better understanding of what you will be able to accomplish moving forward.


Q: What payments do you accept?


A: I am able to take payments via PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle. Unfortunately I can not accept personal checks as payment at this time.
